Furthermore, buddhānusmṛti encompasses the retributions of the six pāramitās. Why? Because of buddhānusmṛti, one is reborn in the pure land where clothing and food appear spontaneously and wealth and treasures are completely sufficient, which encompasses generosity; because of buddhānusmṛti, one is reborn in the pure land, obtaining a male body endowed with the six supernatural powers, which encompasses morality; because of buddhānusmṛti, one is reborn in the pure land, obtaining the upright and pleasing thirty-two marks and eighty minor characteristics, which encompasses forbearance; because of buddhānusmṛti, when one is born in the pure land, water birds, tree groves, Buddhas, and bodhisattvas all expound the Dharma, and having heard these sounds, the thought of the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha naturally arises in all, which is diligence; because of buddhānusmṛti, having been born in that land, one has no other conditions and constantly abides in samādhi, which is meditation; having been born in that land, one naturally understands all dharmas, which is wisdom. Therefore, the single practice of buddhānusmṛti encompasses the retributions of the six pāramitās, surpassing material generosity by hundreds of thousands of times. Therefore, the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra says: 'Dividing the merit of a single recitation of the Buddha into sixteen parts, if there were a person who gave alms to the sentient beings of an entire world for three months, taking just one part of the sixteen parts of the merit of buddhānusmṛti would still surpass that.' Thus we know that buddhānusmṛti surpasses material generosity by hundreds of thousands of times.
