The *Treatise on the Ten Doubts* states: "As for the difficult path, in the evil world of the five turbidities, seeking avinivartanīya is exceedingly difficult to attain. Briefly stated, there are five reasons: first, non-Buddhists who simulate goodness disrupt the bodhisattva Dharma; second, unprincipled evil people ruin others' superior virtue; third, inverted wholesome fruits can destroy pure conduct; fourth, the self-benefit of śrāvakas obstructs great compassion; fifth, there is only self-power. It is like a lame person walking on foot, covering no more than a few li in a day. As for the easy path, it means having faith in the Buddha's teaching of the samādhi of buddha-mindfulness, riding upon the power of Amitābha's vow to be embraced and sustained, and definitely attaining rebirth. It is like someone sailing a boat on water, traveling a thousand li in an instant. It is also like a lowly man who follows a wheel-turning king, circling the four continents in a single day and night: this is not his own power, but the power of the wheel-turning king."
