《妙宗鈔》「問曰：《觀經》上品是出假位，合在穢土利益有情。何故求生淨土耶？答：今十向菩薩求生淨土，乃是大論先自成就功德人也。故《十疑論》明未得無生忍已還，要須常不離佛，故須求生（十向菩薩，約別教說；約圓，即十信位）。」

The *Subtle Meaning Commentary* states: "Question: In the *Contemplation Sūtra*, the highest grade is the stage of emerging from emptiness into provisional reality, which ought to be in the defiled land benefiting sentient beings. Why do they seek rebirth in the Pure Land? Answer: The bodhisattvas of the ten dedications who now seek rebirth in the Pure Land are precisely those spoken of in the *Great Treatise* who first achieve merit for themselves. Therefore, the *Treatise on the Ten Doubts* clarifies that before one attains the forbearance of the non-arising of dharmas, one must never be separated from the Buddha; hence one must seek rebirth (bodhisattvas of the ten dedications is said according to the Separate Teaching; according to the Perfect Teaching, it corresponds to the ten faiths)."
