Peaceful Nurture is not elsewhere; floating clouds are not my own—this is what Master Suyu called the Land of Peace and Joy. After I incurred offense in Taizhou, from the eighth month of the renchen year I put away my books and composed no more texts, reforming my mind and correcting my faults, dedicating myself solely to this land. The road is long and my body is old; I regret having given rise to the aspiration so late. Recently I read Duke Chao Wenyuan's Daoyuan ji on the empty and non-empty samādhis, to which he appended verse, saying that words penetrate the heart and are easy to remember. His words were a four-line gāthā. Duke Wenyuan penetrated deeply into the Buddha-ocean; his words had no superfluous branches. As for words that penetrate the heart, he had not forgotten them either, and moreover wished that they be easy to remember. Could what the Duke called 'easy to remember' be primarily about remembering the words alone? I secretly admire this; whenever words that penetrate the heart arose which I wished to stop but could not stop, I wrote them down here and named it 'Record of Easy Recollection of the Jeweled City.'
