了齋依延慶明智法師，得台教淵源。晚歲專意西方，誠為得所。其紀所行之法，擬晁公貫心易記之辭者，彼曰「吾即今自定日用之法，先入空三昧，旋滅一切忘念，如空華谷響，經視聽而無留礙也。又入不空三昧，安住一真法界，如額珠髻寶，常愛戴而無失墜也。此法交濟，更不異時，精密久長，百法無敵。貫心易記，因繫之以辭，曰：心空如太空，豁然無可觸，一真法界中，靈照常安住。」

Liaozhai relied upon Dharma Master Mingzhi of Yanqing and attained the deep source of the Tiantai teachings. In his later years he concentrated his mind upon the West, which was truly finding his proper place. Recording the method he practiced, modeling it after Duke Chao's words that penetrate the heart and are easy to remember, he said: 'I now personally establish a daily practice: first enter the empty samādhi, instantaneously extinguishing all forgotten thoughts, like flowers in the sky or echoes in a valley, passing through sight and hearing without remaining impediment. Next enter the non-empty samādhi, abiding peacefully in the one true dharmadhātu, like a pearl on the forehead or a gem in the topknot, ever cherished and worn without being lost. These methods mutually aid each other and are not done at separate times; precise, subtle, and enduring, they are unrivaled among the hundred dharmas. To penetrate the heart and be easy to remember, I append these words: "The mind is empty like great space, / open and vast, with nothing to touch. / Within the one true dharmadhātu, / numinous illumination ever abides peacefully."'
