The essential purport of the Pure Land is without good or evil, without grasping or rejecting, without stillness or turmoil, without male or female; if a single thought is genuine and upright, rebirth is decisively assured. Should someone harbor doubts about this—could the ancient buddhas be incapable of it? Liu Zihou's "The God of the Eastern Sea" is also akin to Master Zhuang's words on losing the sheep. If I can have self-confidence without doubt, why worry about not being reborn in the Pure Land? Written for Puzhao, to encourage those to come. On the full moon of the third month in the fifth year of the Shaoxi era, respectfully written by the Old Patch-robed Monk of Juzhou (Baotan).
