天禧四年，太歲庚申，春二月癸未朔，十有三日乙未。耆闍飛來峯之南，古天竺寺宋沙門（遵式），於寺東嶺香林洞側造日觀菴成，乃題石作日觀銘（出《十六觀經》）：

In the fourth year of the Tianxi reign, the *gengshen* year of the sexagenary cycle, in the spring, the second month whose first day was *guiwei*, on the thirteenth day, *yiwei*: South of the Feilai Peak of Gṛdhrakūṭa, the Song śramaṇa (Zunshi) of the ancient Tianzhu Monastery, constructed the Hermitage of the Sun Contemplation beside the Xianglin Cave on the monastery's eastern ridge. Upon its completion, he inscribed the rock with this Inscription on the Contemplation of the Sun (derived from the *Sūtra on the Sixteen Contemplations*):
