I now recite the name of Amitābha,
The Buddha of real merits;
I only pray that in your compassion you deign to receive me,
And bear witness to my repentance and my vows.
Whatever evil karma I have created in the past,
All arisen from beginningless greed, anger, and delusion,
Produced from body, speech, and mind,
I now repent it all.
I vow that when my life is about to end,
All obstacles will be completely eliminated,
I will see that Buddha Amitābha face to face,
And immediately attain rebirth in the Land of Peace and Joy.
That Buddha's assembly is entirely pure;
I will then be born within an excellent lotus flower,
Personally seeing the Tathāgata of Immeasurable Light,
Who will manifest before me to bestow my prophecy of bodhi.
Having received the prophecy bestowed by that Tathāgata,
I will transform into countlessly many hundreds of koṭis of bodies,
With vast power of wisdom pervading the ten directions,
Universally benefiting all realms of sentient beings.
