《觀經》第十三雜相觀云「若欲至心生西方者，先當觀於一丈六像在池水上，如先所說無量壽佛身量無邊，非是凡夫心力所及（如先所說者，如第八像觀所說，觀彌陀三十二相八十種好等也）。」

The thirteenth contemplation of miscellaneous marks in the Guan jing says: "If there are those who wish with utmost sincerity to be reborn in the western direction, they should first contemplate a sixteen-foot image above the water of the pond. As previously explained, the bodily measure of the Buddha Amitāyus is boundless, beyond the reach of ordinary beings' mental capacities (as previously explained refers to the explanation in the eighth contemplation of the image, contemplating Amitābha's thirty-two marks, eighty minor signs, and so forth)."
