Fascicle 76 of the Mahāratnakūṭa-sūtra states: "The Buddha addressed his royal father, Śuddhodana, saying: 'Within the Buddha-Dharma, you should vigorously cultivate heedfulness. Great King! All phenomena are the Buddha-Dharma.' The King said: 'If all phenomena are the Buddha-Dharma, then all sentient beings should also be Buddhas.' The Buddha said: 'Sentient beings who are unheedless and free from inverted views are indeed Buddhas. Great King! All phenomena are unarisen, motionless and unshakeable, without grasping or abandoning, without characteristic marks, and without inherent nature. Great King! You should now settle your mind within this Dharma and not place faith in anything else.' When the Buddha spoke this Dharma, the King and seventy thousand Śākyas attained the anutpattika-dharma-kṣānti. At that time, the World-Honoured One manifested a smile. The monk Aśvajit questioned the Buddha with a verse. The Buddha replied, saying: 'I manifest the smile of quiescent cessation; Aśvajit, listen attentively! I now speak in accordance with reality of the Śākyas' resolute wisdom. All phenomena are ungraspable; the Śākyas all understand this. Therefore, within the Buddha-Dharma, their minds resolutely abide. When their lives end among humans, they will attain rebirth in the Land of Peace and Bliss, meet face-to-face with Amitāyus, and fearlessly achieve bodhi.'"
