淨土之說乃超脫輪迴捷徑，龍舒居士著為成書廣行流布，蓋欲勉人以必為要。人以必至，其用心誠非淺淺。凡欲披閱，須詳味其言、諦思其義；若大概涉獵過目，殆亦徒然。苟為他事所汩，或覺心意稍懈，姑置少時，然後再觀，則庶無遺意。否則非但意義不相屬，而信心亦無自而起。茲文如其無用，望轉施信士，勿徒束之高閣，庶不負龍舒居士之用心。而予區區鋟木之勤殆亦不虛設矣。　呂元益書

The doctrine of the Pure Land is a shortcut to transcending saṃsāra. Layman Longshu composed this complete book and widely distributed it, intending to encourage people to regard it as necessary and to attain it without fail; his intention was truly not shallow. Whenever wishing to read it, one must carefully savor its words and thoroughly reflect upon its meaning; if one merely skims through it casually, it will indeed be in vain. If one is distracted by other matters or feels slightly lax in mind, set it aside for a short time and examine it again later, so that virtually nothing of its meaning is lost. Otherwise, not only will the meanings fail to connect, but faith will also have no origin from which to arise. If this text is of no use to you, I hope you will pass it on to other faithful persons and not merely bundle it up on a high shelf, so that Layman Longshu's intention will not be wasted.
