10.71

父母非我親，誰是最親者？諸佛非我道？誰是最道者？古洪水月居士何道昇，為母持齋施財，率眾同緣刊蓮宗寶鑑一部，流通佛法報答四恩。願一切人得念佛三昧如大勢至，母子歷生不相違遠，心開意解同證菩提。可謂孝慈之心至矣博矣，親恩佛恩一時報畢。余嘉其志合掌讚嘆，為說偈云：

If father and mother are not my closest, who is the closest? If the Buddhas are not my way, what is the supreme way? He Daosheng, Upāsaka Shuiyue of Guhong, observed fasting and gave wealth on behalf of his mother, leading the assembly of common affinity to carve [printing blocks for] a copy of the *Precious Mirror of the Lotus School* to circulate the Buddhadharma and repay the four kindnesses. He vowed that all people may attain the buddhānusmṛti-samādhi like Mahāsthāmaprāpta, that mother and child throughout successive lives may never be separated, and that their minds may open and their understanding unfold to together realize bodhi. This may be called filial piety and compassion reaching the utmost and widest, repaying maternal kindness and Buddha kindness all at once. I commend his resolve, join my palms in praise, and speak a verse for him, saying:
