大眾欲作西方業，初夜獨坐自思量，莫言久住閻浮地，會有一日即無常。命如當風一條燭，亦如石中一電光，聞身康強不苦行，臨渴掘井水難望。

If the great assembly wishes to cultivate the karma for the West, / In the initial watch of the night sit alone and contemplate on your own: / Do not say you will long abide in the land of Jambudvīpa, / For inevitably one day there will be impermanence. / Life is like a single candle facing the wind, / And like a flash of lightning struck from stone; / Hearing that the body is healthy and strong, if one does not practice austerities, / When thirst comes and one digs a well, it will be hard to hope for water.
