1.23

上堂云：「赤肉團上有一無位真人，常從汝等諸人面門出入，未證據者看看。」時有僧出問：「如何是無位真人？」師下禪床把住，云：「道道。」其僧擬議，師托開，云：「無位真人是什麼乾屎橛？」便歸方丈。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said, "On the lump of red flesh there is a true person of no rank, constantly entering and exiting through the face-gates of each of you. Those who have not yet verified it, look, look!"
At that time a monk came forward and asked, "What is the true person of no rank?"
The Master stepped down from the meditation seat, seized him, and said, "Speak! Speak!"
The monk hesitated. The Master pushed him away and said, "What dry lump of shit is the true person of no rank?" He then returned to the abbot's quarters.
