「道流！山僧佛法的的相承，從麻谷和尚、丹霞和尚、道一和尚、廬山拽石頭和尚，一路行遍天下，無人信得，盡皆起謗。如道一和尚用處純一無雜，學人三百、五百盡皆不見他意。如廬山和尚自在真正順逆用處，學人不測涯際，悉皆忙然。如丹霞和尚翫珠隱顯，學人來者皆悉被罵。如麻谷用處苦如黃蘗，近皆不得。如石鞏用處向箭頭上覓人，來者皆懼。如山僧今日用處真正成壞，翫弄神變，入一切境，隨處無事，境不能換。

“Followers of the Way! This mountain monk’s genuine succession of the Buddha’s Dharma has come down through the venerable Magu, the venerable Danxia, the venerable Daoyi, and the stone-dragging venerable of Lushan. Following one road I have travelled throughout the world, yet no one has had faith in it, and all have raised slander. The way the venerable Daoyi operated was pure and unmixed; his three or five hundred students completely failed to see his intention. The way the venerable of Lushan operated was unfettered, genuine, compliant and adverse; students could not fathom its limits and were all utterly bewildered. The way the venerable Danxia toyed with the jewel, concealed and revealed; all students who came were scolded. The way Magu operated was as bitter as Huangbo; no one could come near him. The way Shigong operated was to seek people along the tip of an arrow; all who came were terrified. The way this mountain monk operates today is genuine creation and destruction, playfully brandishing spiritual transformations, entering all environments, having nothing to do anywhere—the environment cannot change me.
