道全（第二世住亦云中洞山）問：「如何是出離之要？」師曰：「闍黎足下煙生全，當下契悟，更不他遊。」雲居進語云：「終不敢孤負和尚足下煙生。」師曰：「步步玄者，即是功到。」

Daoquan (who resided as the second generation [abbot] and was also called Middle Dongshan) asked, "What is the essential of getting free?" The Master said, "Ācārya, smoke rises from under your feet." Quan was instantly enlightened and wandered no further. Yunju came forward with a remark, saying, "I would never dare to betray the smoke rising from beneath the upādhyāya's feet." The Master said, "One whose every step is profound is one whose practice has arrived."
