師一日問雪峯：「作甚麼來？」峯云：「斫槽來。」師曰：「幾斧斫成？」峯云：「一斧斫成。」師曰：「猶是這邊事，那邊事作麼生？」峯云：「直得無下手處。」師曰：「猶是這邊事，那邊事作麼生？」峯休去。

One day the Master asked Xuefeng, "What have you been doing?" Feng said, "I have been chopping out a trough." The Master said, "How many axe strokes did it take to finish?" Feng said, "It was finished in one axe stroke." The Master said, "That is still an affair on this side; what about the affair on that side?" Feng said, "It directly leaves no place to lay a hand." The Master said, "That is still an affair on this side; what about the affair on that side?" Feng gave up.
