師問雲巖：「擬寫和尚真得也無？」巖云：「幾得成。」師曰：「尋常寫真得七八？」巖云：「猶是失在。」師曰：「不失時如何？」巖云：「直得十成。」師曰：「古人道直得十成不似時如何？」巖云：「他無成數。」

The Master asked Yunyan, 'May I make a portrait of the upādhyāya?' Yunyan said, 'How much can you succeed?' The Master said, 'Usually a portrait captures seventy or eighty percent.' Yunyan said, 'That is still falling short.' The Master said, 'What about when it does not fall short?' Yunyan said, 'It reaches a full ten tenths.' The Master said, 'What about when an ancient said: "Even if it reaches a full ten tenths, it still does not resemble"?' Yunyan said, 'That has no fixed percentage.'
