雲巖共師鋤薑地次，巖就先德事，師問：「此人什麼處去也？」巖良久云：「作麼，作麼？」師曰：「太遲生也。」師問雲巖：「未有陰界時，還道得否？」巖云：「爾今還有否？」

While Yunyan and the Master were hoeing a ginger patch, Yunyan touched upon the matter of a former master. The Master asked, 'Where has this person gone?' Yunyan, after a long silence, said, 'What? What?' The Master said, 'Much too late!' The Master asked Yunyan, 'Before there were skandhas and dhātus, could one speak?' Yunyan said, 'Do you have them now or not?'
