云眾曰：「知有底人解入地獄，不知有底人門外走過。」師問新羅僧：「未過海時在什麼處？」無對。自代曰：「秖今過海，也在什麼處。」

Addressing the assembly, he said, 'One who knows it can enter hell; one who does not know it walks past the gate.' The Master asked a monk from Silla, 'Before you crossed the sea, where were you?' There was no answer. [The Master] spoke on his behalf: 'Right now, crossing the sea, where are you?'
