The Master visited a sick monk. The monk said, "How is it when fire and wind scatter and part?" The Master said, "At the time of coming there was not a single thing; at the time of going, let it take its own course." The monk said, "What can be done about this emaciation and disease?" The Master said, "You must know that there is one who is not sick." The monk said, "Who is the one who is not sick?" The Master said, "If you realize it, there is not an inch [of difference]; if you do not realize it, you are separated by mountain ridges." The monk said, "Is one still permitted to calculate the journey ahead?" The Master said, "Although it is black as lacquer, its establishment is right in the present time." The Seven Masters of Jingzhao had a monk ask the Master, "Ultimately, how is that one?" The Master said, "Only if you ask him will you get it."
