藥山問僧：「見說汝解算，是否？」僧云：「不敢。」藥山云：「汝試算老僧看。」僧無對。雲巖舉問師：「汝作麼生？」師云：「請和尚生月。」

Yaoshan asked a monk, "I hear that you understand divination; is that so?" The monk said, "I would not dare claim so." Yaoshan said, "Try divining for this old monk and let me see." The monk had no reply. Yunyan raised this and asked the Master, "What would you say?" The Master said, "Please provide the month of the upādhyāya's birth."
