1.31

師於扇上書佛字，雲巖見，却書不字，師又改作非字。雪峯見，乃一時除却。（興化獎代云：「吾不如汝。」白楊順云：「我若作洞山，只向雪峯道，爾非吾眷屬。」天鉢元云：「洞山雲巖，平地起堆。雪峯老漢，因事長智。」）

The Master wrote the character 'Buddha' on a fan. Yunyan saw it and wrote the character 'Not'. The Master then changed it to the character 'Non-'. When Xuefeng saw it, he erased them all at once. (Xinghua Jiang spoke on his behalf: "I am not as good as you." Baiyang Shun said, "If I were Dongshan, I would just say to Xuefeng: 'You are not of my kinship.'" Tianbo Yuan said, "Dongshan and Yunyan raised a mound on level ground. Old fellow Xuefeng grew in wisdom from the incident.")
