華嚴休靜問師：「學人無箇理路，未免情識運為。」師云：「汝還見有理路也無？」華嚴云：「見無理路。」師云：「甚處得情識來？」華嚴云：「學人實問。」師云：「恁麼則直須向萬里無寸草處去。」華嚴云：「萬里無寸草處，還許某甲去也無？」師云：「直須恁麼去。」

Huayan Xiujing asked the Master, "I have no rational path, and cannot avoid the workings of emotional consciousness." The Master said, "Do you still see a rational path or not?" Huayan said, "I see no rational path." The Master said, "From where did you get emotional consciousness?" Huayan said, "I am truly asking." The Master said, "If so, you must go directly to the place where there is not an inch of grass for ten thousand miles." Huayan said, "At the place where there is not an inch of grass for ten thousand miles, do you still allow me to go?" The Master said, "You must directly go like that."
