1.78

師有時云：「體得佛向上事，方有些子語話分。」僧問：「如何是語話？」師云：「語話時，闍黎不聞。」僧云：「和尚還聞否？」師云：「不語話時即聞。」

The Master once said, "Only when one has realized the matter going beyond the Buddha does one have a bit of a share in speech." A monk asked, "What is speech?" The Master said, "When speech occurs, the ācārya does not hear it." The monk said, "Does the upādhyāya hear it or not?" The Master said, "When speech does not occur, then I hear it."
