The Master asked Yunyan, "I have residual habits that are not yet exhausted." Yunyan said, "What have you been doing?" The Master said, "I do not even practice the noble truths." Yunyan said, "Are you still joyful or not?" The Master said, "As for joy, it is not absent: it is like picking up a bright pearl from atop a heap of dung." The Master asked Yunyan, "What about when one intends to meet [you]?" Yunyan said, "Ask the clerk of the bureau of reception." The Master said, "I am just now asking." Yunyan said, "What did he say to you?"
