智炬到參問云：「古人提持那邊人，學人如何體悉？」師曰：「退步就己，萬不失一。」炬於言下頓忘玄解。

Zhiju came to pay respects and asked, 'When the ancients brought up the person of that side, how should a student comprehend it?' The Master said, 'Take a step back and approach oneself; not one in ten thousand will miss.' At these words, Zhiju instantly forgot his profound interpretations.
