1.38

僧問：「子歸就父，為甚麼父全不顧？」師曰：「理合如是。」僧云：「父子之恩何在？」師曰：「始成父子之恩。」僧云：「如何是父子之恩？」師曰：「刀斧斫不開。」

A monk asked, "When the son returns to the father, why does the father pay no heed at all?" The Master said, "In principle, it should be like this." The monk said, "Where is the grace between father and son?" The Master said, "Only now is the grace between father and son completed." The monk said, "What is the grace between father and son?" The Master said, "Knives and axes cannot cleave it apart."
