1.51

僧問：「親何道伴即得常聞於未聞？」師曰：「同共一被蓋。」僧云：「此猶是和尚得聞，如何是常聞于未聞？」師曰：「不同于木石。」僧云：「何者在先？何者在後？」師曰：「不見道：常聞于未聞。」

A monk asked, "Associating closely with what kind of companion of the Way enables one constantly to hear what has not yet been heard?"
The Master said, "Sharing the very same blanket."
The monk said, "This is still what the Master gets to hear; what is it constantly to hear what has not yet been heard?"
The Master said, "Not being the same as wood and stone."
The monk said, "Which comes first, and which comes after?"
The Master said, "Haven't you heard it said: 'Constantly hearing what has not yet been heard'?"
