1.65

僧舉：「西園一日自燒浴次，僧問：『何不使沙彌？』西園撫掌三下。」問師，師曰：「一等是拍手撫掌，就中西園奇怪，俱胝一指頭禪，蓋為承當處不諦當。」僧却問師：「西園撫掌豈不是奴兒婢子邊事？」師曰：「是。」云：「向上更有事也無？」師曰：「有。」云：「如何是向上事？」師叱曰：「這奴兒婢子！」

A monk cited: "One day when Xiyuan was heating his bath himself, a monk asked, 'Why not have a novice do it?' Xiyuan clapped his hands three times." He asked the Master about it. The Master said, "Though both are clapping hands, Xiyuan's was particularly extraordinary; as for Juzhi's one-finger Chan, it is because his taking it on was not precise." The monk then asked the Master, "Isn't Xiyuan's clapping of hands a matter on the side of boys and maidservants?"
The Master said, "It is."
[The monk] said, "Is there still a higher matter or not?"
The Master said, "There is."
[The monk] said, "What is the higher matter?"
The Master shouted at him, "This boy and maidservant!"
