師於天復辛酉夏夜問知事曰：「今日是幾何日月？」對云：「六月十五。」師曰：「曹山平生行脚，到處秖管九十日為一夏，明日辰時吾行脚去。」及時焚香宴坐而化，閱世六十二，臘三十七，葬全身於山之西阿，諡元證禪師，塔曰福圓。

On a summer night in the xinyou year of the Tianfu reign era, the Master asked the monastic manager, “What date is today?” The manager replied, “The fifteenth day of the sixth month.” The Master said, “Throughout my whole life of traveling, wherever I went I simply regarded ninety days as one summer retreat. Tomorrow at the hour of the dragon, I shall go traveling.” When the time arrived, he burned incense, sat peacefully, and passed away. He had lived sixty-two years and had thirty-seven monastic rains. His whole body was buried on the western slope of the mountain. He was posthumously named Chan Master Yuanzheng, and his pagoda was called Fuyuan.
