師示眾曰：「諸方盡把格則，何不與他道一轉語，令他不疑去。」雲門在眾，出問：「密密處，為甚麼不知有？」師曰：「只為密密，所以不知有（雲竇別云：達磨來也）。」雲門云：「此人如何親近？」師曰：「莫向密密處親近。」雲門云：「不向密密處時如何？」師曰：「始解親近。」雲門云：「諾諾（妙喜云：濁油更著黑燈心）。」

The Master instructed the assembly, saying: 'The various quarters hold completely to standards; why don't you say a turning word to them so that they are free of doubt?' Yunmen, who was in the assembly, stepped forward and asked, 'In the most intimate place, why does one not know existence?' The Master said, 'Just because it is the most intimate, therefore one does not know existence. (Xuedou said as an alternative: Bodhidharma has arrived.)' Yunmen said, 'How should this person approach it?' The Master said, 'Do not approach it in the most intimate place.' Yunmen said, 'What about when one does not approach it in the most intimate place?' The Master said, 'Only then do you understand approaching.' Yunmen said, 'Indeed, indeed. (Miaoxi said: Turbid oil added to a black lamp-wick.)'
