1.30

僧問：「沙門豈不是具大慈悲底人？」師曰：「是。」僧云：「忽遇六賊來時如何？」師曰：「亦須具大慈悲。」僧云：「如何具大慈悲？」師曰：「一劍揮盡。」僧云：「盡後如何？」師曰：「始得和同。」

A monk asked, "Is not a śramaṇa a person endowed with great compassion?" The Master said, "Yes." The monk said, "When suddenly encountering the six thieves coming, how is it?" The Master said, "One must also be endowed with great compassion." The monk said, "How is one endowed with great compassion?" The Master said, "Wipe them out completely with a single sword." The monk said, "After they are wiped out, how is it?" The Master said, "Only then does one attain harmony and unity."
