A monk asked, "According to the teaching, it is said: 'The great ocean does not harbour dead bodies.' What is the great ocean?" The Master said, "It encompasses the myriad things." The monk said, "Why does it not harbour dead bodies?" The Master said, "That whose breath is cut off does not stick." The Master said, "The myriad things are not its merit; that whose breath is cut off possesses its virtue." The monk said, "Is there still a matter of transcendence or not?" The Master said, "You may say there is or say there is not; but what will you do about the Dragon King resting his hand on his sword?"
