僧問：「朗月當空時如何？」師曰：「猶是階下漢。」僧云：「請師接上階。」師曰：「月落後來相見。」（趙州語錄同此，今並存之。）

A monk asked, "What is it like when the bright moon is in the sky?" The Master said, "You are still a fellow below the steps." The monk said, "Please, Master, receive me up the steps." The Master said, "Come see me after the moon has set." (The recorded sayings of Zhaozhou also have this; both are preserved here.)
