1.14

上堂云：「諸和尚子莫妄想，天是天、地是地，山是山、水是水，僧是僧、俗是俗。」良久云：「與我拈案山來看。」便有僧問：「學人見山是山見水是水時如何？」師云：「三門為什麼從這裏過？」進云：「與麼則不妄想去也。」師云：「還我話頭來。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "O monks, do not indulge in false thoughts: heaven is heaven, earth is earth, mountains are mountains, waters are waters, monks are monks, and laypeople are laypeople."
After a long silence, he said: "Bring the table mountain over here for me to see!"
Thereupon a monk asked: "How is it when a student sees mountains as mountains and waters as waters?"
The Master said: "Why did the triple gate pass through here?"
[The monk] advanced and asked: "In that case, then I will not indulge in false thoughts."
The Master said: "Give me back my huatou!"
