上堂云：「如來明星現時成道。」有僧問：「如何是明星現時成道？」師云：「近前來，近前來。」僧近前，師以拄杖打趁。

Ascending the hall, he said: "The Tathāgata realized the Way when the bright star appeared." A monk asked: "What is realizing the Way when the bright star appears?" The Master said: "Come closer, come closer." The monk came closer, and the Master drove him away with blows of his staff.
