上堂云：「不得已且作死馬醫，向汝道是箇什麼？是東是西是南是北？是有是無是見是聞？是向上是向下？是與麼是不與麼？這箇喚作三家村裏老婆說話。是爾有幾箇到此境界？相當即相當；不相當，靜處薩婆訶。」便下座。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "As a last resort, treating a dead horse as if alive: I say to you, what is this? Is it east, west, south, or north? Is it existent or non-existent? Is it seen or heard? Is it transcendental or descending? Is it thus or not thus? This is called old women's talk in a three-family village. How many among you have reached this realm? If it accords, then it accords; if it does not accord, in a quiet place: svāhā!" He then stepped down from the seat.
