上堂云：「我有一句語，不敢望爾會，還有人舉得麼？」良久云：「將謂胡鬚赤，更有赤鬚胡。」便下座。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said, "I have a phrase of words; I dare not expect you to understand it. Is there still someone who can bring it up?" After a long silence, he said, "One thought the barbarian's beard was red, but there is also a red-bearded barbarian!" He then stepped down from the seat.
