師入京在受春殿，聖上問：「如何是禪？」師云：「皇帝有勅臣僧對。」師在文德殿赴齋，有鞠常侍問：「靈樹果子熟也未？」師云：「什麼年中得信道生。」

The Master entered the capital and was at the Shouchun Hall. His Majesty asked: "What is Chan?" The Master said: "The Emperor gives an edict; the subject-monk answers." When the Master attended a vegetarian feast at the Wende Hall, Attendant Ju asked: "Is the fruit of Lingshu ripe yet?" The Master said: "In what year did you receive word that it was raw?"
