The Master said: "Do not say it is fine to deceive you people today. Forced by necessity, I have made a mess before you all; if a person with clear eyes were suddenly to see it, it would become a laughingstock. Now it cannot be avoided. But let me ask you people: from the beginning, what matter has there been? What do you lack? To say to you that there is nothing the matter is already burying you. You must reach this realm before you can attain it. Do not just open your mouth and ask rashly while your own mind is pitch dark; tomorrow and the day after, there will be big trouble. If your faculty of thought is sluggish, then for now look east and look west in the ancient ones' house styles of establishing and transforming, to see what principle it is. Do you want to understand? It is entirely because your own delusive thoughts since beginningless kalpas have been thick and heavy; once you hear someone speak of it, you immediately give rise to doubts, asking about Buddha, asking about Dharma, asking about what is above, asking about what is below, seeking an understanding, which is all the more irrelevant. When you intend [with your] mind, you immediately err; how much more so when there are words! Could it be that having no intention of mind is it? What further matter is there? Take care."
