上堂云：「諸兄弟盡是諸方參尋知識，決擇生死，到處豈無老宿垂慈方便之詞，還有透不得底句麼？出來舉看，待老漢與汝大家商量。有麼有麼？」時有僧出擬伸問次，師云：「去去，西天路迢迢十萬餘。」便下座。問：「如何是當今施設？」師云：「道即不難，鑒從何來？」問：「如何是不睡底眼？」師云：「不省。」問：「如何是不犯之令？」師云：「那箇師僧還見麼？」問：「如何是大人相？」師乃擎拳。問：「如何是學人切急處？」師云：「爾怕我不知。」問：「如何是佛法大意？」師云：「一佛二菩薩。」問：「如何是雪嶺泥牛吼？」師云：「山河走。」進云：「如何是雲門木馬嘶？」師云：「天地黑。」問：「如何是兄弟添十字？」師云：「我共汝說葛藤。」問：「如何是和尚為人一句？」師云：「心不負人，面無慚色。速禮三拜。」問：「如何是天然之事？」師云：「蹋步向前作什麼？」問：「如何是教意？」師云：「吃嘹舌頭更將一問來。」問：「如何是七縱八橫？」師云：「放汝一著。」

Ascending the hall, he said, "Brothers, you have all sought out good spiritual friends in every direction to resolve life and death. Wherever you go, could there not be phrases of compassion and skillful means from the venerable elders? Are there still phrases you cannot penetrate? Come forward and bring them up for examination, and let this old fellow discuss them with you all. Is there anyone? Is there anyone?" At that time a monk came forward intending to pose a question, whereupon the Master said, "Go, go! The road to the Western Heaven is more than a hundred thousand li away." Then he stepped down from his seat. A monk asked, "What is the current arrangement?" The Master said, "Speaking is not difficult, but where does the mirror-like perception come from?" He asked, "What is the sleepless eye?" The Master said, "I do not understand." He asked, "What is the inviolable command?" The Master said, "Does that monk still see it?" He asked, "What is the mark of a great man?" The Master then raised his fist. He asked, "What is the student's most urgent matter?" The Master said, "You fear I do not know." He asked, "What is the great meaning of the Buddha Dharma?" The Master said, "One Buddha, two bodhisattvas." He asked, "What is the roar of the mud ox on the Snowy Peak?" The Master said, "Mountains and rivers flee." The monk advanced and asked, "What is the neighing of Yunmen's wooden horse?" The Master said, "Heaven and earth go dark." He asked, "What is brothers adding the cross?" The Master said, "I talk entanglements together with you." He asked, "What is the upādhyāya's single phrase for helping people?" The Master said, "A mind that does not wrong others, a face without shame. Quickly make three prostrations." He asked, "What is the natural matter?" The Master said, "What are you doing stepping forward?" He asked, "What is the intention of the teaching?" The Master said, "Holding back your glib tongue, bring me another question." He asked, "What is seven vertical and eight horizontal?" The Master said, "I let you off by a move."
