上堂云：「爾道古佛與露柱相交，是第幾機？」無對。師云：「汝問我，與汝道。」僧便問，師云：「一條絛三十文。」代前語云：「南山起雲，北山下雨。」僧又問：「作麼生是一條絛三十文？」師云：「打與。」

Ascending the hall, he said, "You say the ancient Buddhas and the exposed pillars cross each other—what dynamic is this?" There was no answer. The Master said, "Ask me, and I'll tell you." A monk then asked, and the Master said, "One cord for thirty cash." Answering on behalf of the earlier speech, he said, "Clouds rise on the South Mountain, rain falls on the North Mountain." The monk asked again, "What is 'one cord for thirty cash'?" The Master said, "Beating him with it."
