2.26

舉：「仰山云：『如來禪即許師兄會。』」僧便問：「如何是如來禪？」師云：「上大人。」又拈起扇子云：「我喚作扇子，爾喚作什麼？」僧無語，師云：「扇子上說法，燈籠裏藏身，作麼生？」僧却問：「如何是和尚禪？」師叱云：「元來秖在者裏。」

He cited: "Yangshan said, 'I grant that Elder Brother understands the Tathāgata Chan.'" A monk then asked, "What is the Tathāgata Chan?" The Master said, "'Shang-da-ren'." He also held up a fan and said, "I call it a fan; what do you call it?" The monk had no words. The Master said, "Preaching the Dharma on a fan, hiding the body inside a lantern—what about it?" The monk in turn asked, "What is the Upādhyāya's Chan?" The Master scolded him, "Originally it was right here all along!"
