師因披衲衣云：「古人道：『披衣蓋乾坤。』」乃拈起衲衣抖擻云：「北斗一時黑作麼生？」代云：「也知和尚出身早。」又云：「不道與麼去？」

The master, putting on his patch-robe, said, "The ancients said: 'Donning the robe covers heaven and earth.'" Thereupon he took up the patch-robe, shook it out, and said, "The Northern Dipper goes black all at once—what about it?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "I also know the upādhyāya began his career early." He also said, "Does one not speak in this way?"
