師因說事了起立云：「爾諸人忽然今夜總悟去，早起將刀截却我頭。我說了也。」乃拈衲衣抖擻云：「作麼生？」代云：「學人不得辜負和尚。」

The master, having finished speaking about an affair, stood up and said, "If all of you should suddenly awaken tonight, get a knife at dawn and sever my head. I have finished speaking." Thereupon he took up his patch-robe, shook it out, and said, "What about it?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "The student must not fail the upādhyāya."
