The Master once said, "If I speak of bodhi, nirvāṇa, tathatā, and liberation, that is burning maple incense as an offering to you; if I speak of Buddhas and Patriarchs, that is burning yellow-ripe incense as an offering to you; if I speak words that transcend the Buddhas and surpass the Patriarchs, that is burning vase incense as an offering to you. Take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha! Step down!"
