2.47

師一日拈起拄杖舉，教云：「凡夫實，謂之有；二乘析，謂之無，緣覺謂之幻有；菩薩當體即空。」乃云：「衲僧見拄杖，但喚作拄杖，行但行坐但坐，總不得動著。」

One day the Master held up his staff and cited the teaching: "Ordinary people take it as real and call it 'existent'; the two vehicles analyze it and call it 'non-existent'; the pratyekabuddhas call it 'illusory existence'; the bodhisattvas recognize that its very substance is empty." He then said, "When patch-robed monks see a staff, they just call it a staff; when walking they just walk, when sitting they just sit—in no way may they stir."
