師示眾云：「盡十方世界乾坤大地，以拄杖一畫百雜碎，三乘十二分教、達磨西來，放過即不可，若不放過，不消一喝。」

The Master instructed the assembly, saying: "The world of the ten directions, heaven, earth, and the great earth, are smashed into a hundred shattered pieces with one stroke of the staff! As for the three vehicles, the twelve divisions of the teaching, and Bodhidharma's coming from the West: if I let them pass, it will not do; if I do not let them pass, they are not worth a single shout!"
