3.21

問僧：「近離甚處？」僧云：「查渡。」師云：「蹋破多少草鞋？」無對。代云：「可惜草鞋。」又云：「不虛蹋破草鞋。」

He asked a monk, "Where have you recently departed from?" The monk said, "Zhadu." The Master said, "How many straw sandals have you worn out?" There was no reply. Answering on his behalf, he said, "What a pity for the straw sandals." He also said, "I have not worn out straw sandals in vain."
